Hotel Zed’s internationally renowned Valentine’s Day Nooner special returns this year to celebrate all types of love – and all kinds of relationships.
“Relationships don’t always look like the ones we see in typical greeting cards and that can feel alienating for a lot of folks,” said Matt Schmitt, Sales Manager at Hotel Zed. “It’s so encouraging to see Valentine’s Day becoming more inclusive, because there are gaps in the holiday as we know it.
When queer people travel, we must make tough choices on where to stay and whether we would feel safe in a particular area. Seeing something like the Progress Pride Flag at a hotel lets myself and my partner know we are safe among friends, and we can be who we are without judgement."
From February 1-15, guests can follow the rainbow to the multimedia Progress Pride Flag displays within the lobbies of all Hotel Zed locations to honour all kinds of love. Unveiled in 2018, the Progress Pride Flags adds five arrow-shaped lines to the six-coloured Rainbow Flag to emphasize inclusion and progression. Guests are encouraged to snap their photo with their special somebodies to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Hotel Zed will also donate $1 to the Rainbow Railroad from February 1-15 on behalf of anyone who uses the hashtag #LoveFromAToZed on social media. Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit that helps LGBTQ+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.
In addition, Hotel Zed created inclusive Valentine’s Day cards to capture the diversity of love for those who have had a hard time finding greeting cards that speak to queer or non-monogamous relationships. This suite of fun, funky and inclusive cards are available for free at the Hotel Zed lobbies starting February 1. Locals and guests alike are encouraged to come into Hotel Zed in Victoria, Kelowna and Tofino to use their photo op and write a Valentine’s card!
Hotel Zed became a media sensation two Valentine’s Days ago in 2020 after introducing a playful campaign encouraging lovebirds to indulge in a midday romp. As a frisky bonus, the package offered a free stay every Valentine’s Day for the next 18 years to any guests who birthed a child nine months after check-in. In December of 2020, Nicole and Alex – the couple who became pregnant thanks to Hotel Zed’s feisty offering – welcomed a new baby girl into the world, completing their family of four.
Hotel Zed’s Nooner package will be from 11 AM to 2 PM and starts at $59 for three hours; to extend the romance, splurge on an overnight stay for $79 in Kelowna, $99 in Victoria and $169 in Tofino. For more information, or to book your Nooner stay, visit hotelzed.com
