Proceeds from Sale of Official Pink Shirt Day Gear at London Drugs Locations Help Benefit Anti-Bullying Programs, Community Organizations in BC and Beyond
London Drugs continues its commitment to support kids, communities and causes across Western Canada by encouraging others to ‘think pink’ and take a stand against bullying as the official Retail Partner for CKNW Kids’ Fund’s annual Pink Shirt Day campaign on Wednesday, February 23.
Since 2009, London Drugs has been a proud supporter and partner of Pink Shirt Day, which aims to raise awareness and funds for anti-bullying and kids’ programs, spread kindness, and build a more inclusive and tolerant society. Every year on February 23, thousands of Canadians across the country mark the occasion by putting on pink to show their support for safer, more inclusive schools, workplaces and communities.
“Pink Shirt Day has been a major fundraising focus for CKNW Kids’ Fund. We at London Drugs are proud to continue to show our support for an event that does so much good for kids in our communities both here in BC and across Western Canada,” said London Drugs president and COO Clint Mahlman. “At the heart of Pink Shirt Day is an important message about embracing diversity and inclusivity, lifting each other up, and showing the respect and compassion that everyone deserves not just on the day, but throughout the year.”
Throughout January and February, supporters can purchase their official Pink Shirt Day T-shirts emblazoned with the 2022 motto (‘Lift Each Other Up’) as well as pink toques, bracelets, buttons and bandanas at London Drugs locations across Western Canada or online at londondrugs.com. One hundred per cent of the net proceeds from sales will be donated to community organizations that work with and support vulnerable children and youth.
“We are proud to support all people who are affected by bullying, inappropriate use of power, and systemic racism and discrimination,” said Wally Oppal, CKNW Kids’ Fund Board Chair. “How we treat each other matters, not just on Pink Shirt Day but everyday. Please join us in celebrating our diversity while raising funds to support inclusive anti-bullying programs for children and youth in our communities.”
Originally inspired by an act of kindness that was shown by two Nova Scotia students towards a bullied schoolmate in 2007, Pink Shirt Day has since grown far beyond Canadian borders, with countries such as Japan, New Zealand, China and others now participating in the annual event.
Last year, London Drugs customers in Western Canada purchased 15,440 T-shirts, 3,537 masks, 2,170 buttons and 1,789 toques, helping the retailer raise more than $65,000 for CKNW Kids’ Fund. Since the program started, London Drugs has donated more than $1.25 million to the cause via its Pink Shirt Day fundraising initiatives.
CKNW Kids’ Fund along with 980 CKNW and the presenting and retail partners have raised more than $2.8 million for anti-bullying programs through merchandise sales and donations since Pink Shirt Day was first launched in BC in 2008. In 2021, CKNW and its partners raised more than $230,000 to help fund organizations throughout BC that included:
- Autism Society of BC
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver
- Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver
- Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland
